What to Expect?

An Authentic Cultural Experience on the Water Including:

When you Arrive?

Guests will arrive 30-40 minutes prior to our departure time, which will be shared in the booking confirmation.

1. Meet the team, our guides will be ready for your arrival and excited to introduce themselves

2. Check-in & introduce yourself or your group

3. The team will suit you up with the required gear (Lifejackets, boots, etc)

4. Additional paperwork completed including, Haida Style Waivers & Gwaii Haanas Forms

5. Once everyone is suited up and prepared for the day, the guides will walk you down to the vessel.

Our Day

Throughout the day there will be time to connect with our guides and captains, as well as time to take pictures. Our staff will do their best to accommodate everyones needs for the duration of the tour.

• Photography

  • Photos are welcome and encouraged by our team, however please ask the Watchmen and other folks if they are comfortable.

  • Feel free to share them with info@haidastyle.com or via Social Media, we love to see them!

• Bathroom Breaks

  • Communication is key! Give the guides or captain a heads up when you need to use the restroom so that we can ensure safety when the vessel is moving. Haawa.

  • Ashore at most of the sites there will be restrooms available for everyones comfort, so lots of options throughout the day. With the exception of the West Coast tour, where we will encourage guests to use the on board toilet.

• Time Out on Deck

  • Safety is Haida Style’s #1 priority, please ensure you are following the rules on board, such as wearing your lifejacket and communicating with guides if you’d like to go outside.

• Walking Through the Villages

  • We are visiting the village sites with Yahguudang (Respect), please stay within the shell path ensuring we dont step on any sensitive areas.

  • Additionally, take the Haida Gwaii Pledge before arriving and check out the Gwaii Haanas Page for more information on the National Park Reserve, Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site. Haawa.

Whats for Lunch?

Each tour is unique, especially when it comes to meals. Life on Haida Gwaii means relying on what the land and sea provide, often locally caught salmon, halibut, and sometimes even venison. Below we highlight some of the key features of our lunch.

• BBQ Salmon or Halibut, Rice, Roasted Potatoes

• Light seasonal salad

• Seasonal snacks

• Baked treats with coffee, tea, water & sometimes hot chocolate

If you have any severe allergies please highlight that information in your booking info. We try our best to accommodate to dietary restrictions, however with our limited resources it’s not always possible. Please be mindful and pack extra snacks if that makes you feel more comfortable.

What You Should Know?

Health & Safety

Haida Style will do its best to ensure your comfort and safety upon any change in weather conditions. Please be realistic in your estimation of what physical limitations you may have. While we offer an enclosed cabin for your journey, weather can at times be unpredictable resulting in compression forces on your neck and spine, unstable footing and potential for seasickness. Our on-land portions of our tours require some beach walking, slippery boardwalks and uneven ground. If you are not able to currently participate in these activities, perhaps a land tour with a local company may be a more appropriate option for you.
